It didn't take long for Los Angeles Angels two-way phenom Shohei Ohtani to make history in his first start on the mound in nearly three months. In his first inning as a pitcher since June 6, he passed the 50-inning threshold on the season.
By doing so, he joined the legendary Babe Ruth as the only players in MLB history to pitch at least 50 innings and 15 home runs in the same season.

Shohei Ohtani is doing something we haven’t seen in 99(!) years.
8:27 PM - Sep 2, 2018
Ohtani has been limited to designated hitter duties since he returned from the disabled list July 3 due to a Grade 2 sprain of his ulnar collateral ligament in his pitching elbow.
While Ohtani is expected to be limited by a pitch count similar to the 50-pitch simulated game he threw last Monday, he looked good while ge out of trouble in the first inning. After allowing a pair of baserunners, he froze Houston Astros first baseman Tyler White on a wicked slider for strike three to end the frame.
